TORO, Monterey County — October 30, 2026. Toro County Park’s posted seasonal schedule calls for a change in opening hours starting Sunday, November 1. The county lists 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for November and December, shorter than the 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. October schedule. Families planning afternoon hikes and picnics should allow enough time to leave before the regular gate-closing hour.
What can visitors do at Toro Park?
Monterey County describes Toro as a 4,756-acre day-use park that first opened in 1971. Its public listing identifies more than 20 miles of hiking trails, including routes designated for mountain bicycles, along with playgrounds, lawns, barbecue areas, volleyball and other recreation facilities. Wildlife may include deer, turkey, coyotes and occasionally mountain lions, so pets and food should be managed responsibly.
Do picnic sites require a reservation?
The county says Toro offers more than 33 individual picnic sites that visitors may use on a first-come, first-served basis. They include a table and grill. Larger groups may reserve one of the park’s separate group areas; the county lists six large group sites accommodating approximately 50–500 people and five smaller reservable areas for groups of up to 50. Site-specific capacity, charges, rules and availability must be confirmed with the county’s park reservations office.
Are bounce houses allowed anywhere?
No. The county specifies that inflatable structures may be used only in reservable picnic areas, not in ordinary first-come sites. The rules limit each reservation to one inflatable of no more than 15 by 15 feet, require adult supervision and impose additional generator and sound restrictions. Permits and charges may apply.
Does the new regular schedule guarantee the park is open all day?
Not necessarily. Special events, maintenance and weather can alter access. The county’s separate event calendar lists athletic events at Toro Park on October 30–31, so visitors should check event-specific restrictions before traveling today or tomorrow. The November 8 a.m.–5 p.m. schedule describes regular seasonal hours, not a live confirmation that every trail is open.
