TORO, Monterey County — October 30, 2026. Monterey County’s official project tracker describes a $1.3 million American Rescue Plan Act allocation for rehabilitation of the Toro County Park water system on Highway 68. It is a less visible investment than the park’s public sporting events: improvements to the existing well, irrigation system and booster station help sustain day-use grounds and park operations.
What work has the county documented?
The county’s public project summary says the well was relined and tested in summer 2023. Design and engineering plans for subsequent phases were completed in December 2023, and the Don Chapin Company received a notice to proceed in January 2024 for the well rehabilitation phase. Contractor mobilization was listed for May 2024 after permits and submittals, with an estimated July 2024 completion date. That estimated date is not independently verified as an actual completion milestone.
What remains planned?
Beyond the well, the project calls for approximately one mile of irrigation pipe and improvements to an existing booster pumping station and telemetry controls. County records say the schedules for Phase 3 irrigation piping and Phase 4 booster upgrades are to be determined, pending additional appropriations. They do not establish that all of those components were installed by October 2026.
Does this affect household tap water?
The project is identified as a county park water-system improvement; it should not be confused with the separate drinking-water systems and household accounts serving the surrounding Toro residential community. The $1.3 million figure reflects the county’s listed project funding, not a new assessment on neighboring homeowners.
What should visitors expect?
No current Toro Park closure is announced by this historical project listing. Construction scheduling, if later work proceeds, would require a fresh county advisory. Park users should check official hours and event notices before entering construction or maintenance zones.
